DIANE, 60-ish, a novelist who lives in Tucson, rents a cabin in the PNW woods, not far from the coast, to finish her latest Whodunit. She has been divorced twenty years from the father (ED, 60-ish) of their son, BRIAN, 30-something, who is gay and lives with his partner in Asheville, North Carolina.
Diane flies to Portland, picks up her rental SUV, drives to the property, arrives at night at the gate where the remote road meets dirt driveway. She drives the path to the car port, flats on a nail.
