The routine has evolved from me landing in Sacramento and taking public transit - bus from airport to downtown, light rail from downtown to the Sunrise stop in Rancho Cordova ("Rancho" hereafter) - to Brother (with Mom) picking me up at the airport and us heading off east, west, north or south for a daytrip that gets us home at night, usually nine or ten.
This weekend will be a welcome change. I'm taking the train (Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner) to San Luis Obispo, where they'll meet me, we'll check in to the hotel, then head out for a drive -Brother mentioned Carrizo Plain, but plans are subject to change - get back to the hotel at night, see what Sunday shows us. I'll take the train back late afternoon Sunday.
Before Mom moved from where she lived in Lockhart, Texas, where I spent all my vacation time, I would make this train trip some Saturdays - up, a few hours in town including a meal at Sally Loo's, then back down to L.A. - and always experienced it as a reset of sorts. A lot of time on the train but it works for me, content to gaze out the window and nurse the couple beers I'd get from the cafe car.
Some Saturdays I'd get off the train, cross the bridge and schlep up the hill to Terrace Hill Open Space, from where I took this photo below.
Looking forward to it. Will get a chance to take some pictures from the train to replace thos lost when a laptop was stolen. Report to follow next week.
All Aboard.
